Together We Thrive

Maricopa SHIFT is a collaborative approach of family support and substance use disorder professionals working together to break the stigma of parents with a Substance Use Disorder (SUD), and improve the outcomes for children and families. We believe that first relationships are important and improving the quality of life for parents results in healthy and safe babies.

The SHIFT Begins With You

You and your family are the most important people your baby needs to be safe and healthy. We know you want the best for your baby. We believe that parents with a SUD are parents first, however it can be a challenge to provide the nurturing care your baby needs if you are not nurturing yourself first.

Make a SHIFT in Substance Use Disorder

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported that from 2017 to 2020 there were 936 confirmed cases in Maricopa County of infants exposed to substances prenatally who experienced Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS.)

That means over 300 babies born per year in Maricopa County were affected by NAS. The number of newborns diagnosed with NAS has grown exponentially in recent years as a result of the national opioid crisis. We know that parents of these affected children face challenges as well.
